Texas-style slow-baked seasoned brisket, cooked until fork-tender.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 bay leaf, crushed
  • 1 (4 pound) beef brisket
  • 1.5 cups beef stock
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to an inviting 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Combine chili powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, sugar, mustard, and bay leaf in a bowl; season brisket with spices. Place beef in a roasting pan or Dutch oven uncovered.
  • Place the dish in the preheated oven for 1 hour. Add enough beef stock to the pan so that it's covered by 1/2 inch. Cover the pan with a lid or aluminum foil and lower the temperature to 300°F (150°C).
  • Bake for an additional 3 hours until the beef is melt-in-your-mouth tender. Slice the beef thinly against the grain and serve with the flavorful pan juices.
