Enhance a classic sandwich with zesty lemon peel and tangy lemon pepper.
Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon pepper seasoning
  • 1 loaf (1 lb) rustic baguette bread
  • 2 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon grated lemon peel
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper seasoning
  • 1 boneless beef sirloin steak, 1 inch thick (1 lb)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded romaine lettuce
Instructions:
  • Prepare the grill for direct heat. In a small bowl, thoroughly mix all the lemon mayonnaise ingredients.
  • Slice the bread in half horizontally and drizzle 1 tablespoon of oil evenly over the cut sides. In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil with lemon peel, soy sauce, and lemon pepper seasoning. Rub the oil mixture onto both sides of the beef.
  • Grill beef over medium heat for 8 to 9 minutes, turning occasionally, until cooked to your liking. Toast bread, cut sides down, during the last 2 minutes of grilling.
  • On the bottom half of the bread, spread a generous layer of creamy mayonnaise. Thinly slice the beef crosswise. Arrange a bed of fresh lettuce and the sliced beef on the bottom half of the bread. Top with the other bread half and slice into 4 sandwiches.
