Elevate your hamburger steaks with rich homemade mushroom gravy for a quick and delicious weeknight meal.
Ingredients:
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 7 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups sliced button mushrooms, or more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 cup sour cream
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
  • Combine ground beef, diced onion, eggs, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, chopped parsley, 2 teaspoons salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper in a bowl. Divide the mixture into 6 equal parts and shape them into patties.
  • Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties in batches of 3 until lightly browned on one side, approximately 5 minutes. Flip and continue cooking until the other side is browned for another 5 minutes. Repeat with the remaining patties, draining any excess liquid. Transfer the Salisbury steaks to a plate and cover with aluminum foil to keep warm or store them in the oven.
  • Melt butter in the skillet over medium heat. Sauté mushrooms until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Transfer mushrooms to a bowl, keeping the butter in the skillet.
  • Mix the flour into the butter until fully incorporated. Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring until the mixture thickens, approximately 7 minutes. Stir in 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce and continue cooking and stirring until the gravy slightly thickens, around 5 minutes. Stir in the sour cream, season with salt and pepper, and cook until the sour cream is completely melted and the gravy turns light brown, approximately 2 minutes.
  • Mix the mushrooms back into the savory gravy. Allow it to cool off the heat until it thickens, approximately 2 minutes. Spoon the flavorful gravy and mushrooms over the delicious steak patties.
