Indulge in fudgy, chocolatey date brownies with naturally sweet dates instead of sugar.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup pitted Deglet Noor dates
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.33333334326744 cup whole wheat flour
  • 0.33333334326744 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
Instructions:
  • Place the dates in a small bowl and cover them with hot water. Allow them to soak for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and line an 8x8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, ensuring some hangs over the sides.
  • Drain dates and place them in a food processor. Blend until dates are silky smooth, which should take about 1 to 2 minutes. If the date paste is too thick, gradually add hot water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it reaches a smooth consistency.
  • Combine softened butter in the food processor for 30 seconds. Follow by adding eggs and vanilla extract, process for 1 minute until fluffy. Add whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt, pulse for 30 seconds. Fold in chocolate chips by hand and pour batter into baking dish.
  • Bake until edges are just starting to set, 20 to 25 minutes in a preheated oven. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then gently remove brownies by lifting up the edges of the parchment paper. Cool completely on a rack before cutting into 16 pieces.
