Crispy golden brown Filipino spring rolls filled with savory pork and shrimp, deep fried to perfection.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup finely chopped raw shrimp
  • 0.5 cup finely chopped onion
  • 0.5 cup grated carrots
  • 0.25 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon monosodium glutamate (MSG)
  • 1 (16 ounce) package spring roll wrappers
  • 1 egg white, beaten
  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
  • Combine the ground pork, shrimp, onion, carrots, green onions, soy sauce, salt, pepper, and MSG in a bowl, ensuring everything is evenly mixed.
  • Take one wrapper off the stack and cover the rest with a damp cloth. Lay the wrapper on a work surface. Spread a thin line, as wide as your little finger, along one side of the wrapper, 1/2 inch from the edge. Roll the wrapper tightly around the filling and seal the edges using egg white. Continue making rolls with the rest of the wrappers and filling, then cut the rolls into thirds.
  • Preheat oil in a heavy pan or deep fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C. Fry 3-4 lumpia at a time, flipping once, until they float and are golden brown, approximately 3 minutes. Serve immediately.
