Filipino-style egg rolls, packed with seasoned pork and veggies, perfect for entertaining.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 large stalk celery, finely chopped
  • 1 large carrot, finely chopped
  • salt to taste
  • 2 pounds ground pork
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh garlic
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 0.25 teaspoon celery seed
  • 2 (16 ounce) packages lumpia wrappers
  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
  • In a large skillet over medium-low heat, warm 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Sauté onion, celery, and carrot until onion is soft, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt. Add ground pork and garlic; cook until pork is no longer pink. Season with more salt and drain excess grease. Mix in red pepper flakes, garlic powder, turmeric, ginger, cumin, coriander, and celery seed. Allow it to cool.
  • Take a lumpia wrapper with one corner facing you. Add approximately 1 tablespoon of pork mixture. Fold the corner closest to you over the filling, then fold the two side corners towards the center and roll the wrapper around the pork. Brush a small amount of water on the top corner and press to seal. Repeat with the rest of the filling and wrappers.
  • In a deep-fryer or large saucepan, warm 1 quart of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry rolls in batches until they turn a beautiful golden brown, which should take about 4 to 6 minutes. Then, let them drain on a plate lined with paper towels.
