Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup Progresso™ chicken broth (from 32-oz carton)
  • 8 cups cubed soft French bread
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 lb bulk breakfast sausage
  • 2 cups thinly sliced onions
  • 1 package (8 oz) mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 cup shredded white Cheddar cheese (4 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh Italian (flat-leaf) parsley leaves
  • 1 tablespoon thinly sliced fresh chives
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves
Instructions:
  • Grease a 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish. In a large bowl, combine eggs, whipping cream, and broth. Mix in bread until well coated with the egg mixture.
  • In a 12-inch nonstick skillet over medium heat, melt the butter until it sizzles. Add the sausage and cook for 7 to 9 minutes until golden brown. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the sausage into the bowl with the egg mixture.
  • Saute onions, mushrooms, and salt in butter in a skillet over medium-high heat until mushrooms are golden brown, about 9 to 12 minutes. Add garlic, mix well, and let cool for 3 minutes. Combine with egg mixture, cheese and pour into a baking dish. Cover and refrigerate for 8-12 hours before baking.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes until the center reaches at least 165°F and a knife inserted 1 inch from the edge comes out clean. Allow it to stand for 5 minutes, then garnish with herbs.
