Indulge in a decadent maple syrup custard pie – perfect for fall and an impressive addition to your holiday spread. Slice thinly for maximum enjoyment.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup cold water
  • 0.75 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 cup real maple syrup
  • 2 eggs
  • 0.75 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 0.5 cup dark brown sugar
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Create a crumbly mixture by cutting vegetable shortening into flour using a pastry cutter. In a measuring cup, whisk together 1 egg, cold water, and vinegar. Make a well in the flour mixture, pour half of the egg mixture in, and incorporate. Stir in the remaining egg mixture until just combined.
  • Roll out dough into a 10-inch circle on a floured surface, then place it into an 8-inch pie dish. Trim and flute the edges of the crust.
  • Combine maple syrup, 2 eggs, sweetened condensed milk, and brown sugar in a bowl. Whisk until brown sugar is fully dissolved. Pour the filling into the crust.
  • Bake in the oven until the filling is set with golden sugary spots on top, approximately 45 minutes. Chill until cold and firm, for 5 to 6 hours before serving.
