Maple caramel poached pears baked in puff pastry for a simple, elegant dessert.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 (17.3 ounce) package frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 0.33333334326744 cup brown sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 cup maple syrup
  • 4 firm pears - peeled, cored, and halved, or more as needed
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Flatten puff pastry on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness; chill in the refrigerator.
  • In a 9-inch cast iron skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, stirring until sugar dissolves, about 5 minutes. Mix in maple syrup and cook until mixture starts to bubble. Remove from heat.
  • Arrange the pear halves around the center pear, cut sides up, creating a beautiful display in the skillet.
  • In a skillet over medium-low heat, gently cook the pears in the syrup mixture, basting them until they start to soften, approximately 5 minutes. Remove skillet from heat.
  • Take the puff pastry out of the refrigerator and drape it over the pears, ensuring to tuck the edges of the pastry around the pears inside the skillet.
  • Bake the pastry in the preheated oven until puffed and golden, approximately 20 minutes. Let it cool for 5 minutes. Place a serving plate over the skillet, then invert to remove the tart (skillet will still be hot). Serve warm.
