Family heirloom chocolate cake recipe from the Depression era.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 0.75 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) while you prepare a 9-inch square pan by greasing and flouring it.
  • Combine flour, baking soda, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Stir in water, mayonnaise, and melted chocolate until well combined.
  • Bake for 35 minutes or until perfectly cooked, then generously frost with your favorite icing.
