Flavorful homemade stromboli stuffed with pepperoni, ham, veggies, and cheese, baked to perfection for an Italian-inspired meal.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (1 pound) loaf frozen bread dough, thawed
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 5 slices pepperoni
  • 5 slices Virginia baked ham
  • 5 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil, or as needed
  • 0.25 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 0.25 cup chopped onion
  • 0.25 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon grated Parmesan cheese
  • 0.25 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions:
  • Allow the thawed bread dough to rest in a warm spot until it doubles in size, which should take about 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and generously grease a baking sheet.
  • Gently shape the dough into a generous rectangle on the baking sheet.
  • Combine 2 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese, 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, egg yolks, parsley, oregano, garlic powder, and black pepper in a bowl; spread onto dough. Layer with pepperoni, ham, and provolone cheese on top of the Parmesan mixture.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, sauté green bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms in 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil until tender, about 5 to 10 minutes. Spoon the cooked mixture over the provolone layer.
  • Wrap the dough around the filling and transfer the stromboli, seam side-down, onto the baking sheet. Gently brush the top with egg whites, then sprinkle with 1 teaspoon each of Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning.
  • Bake in the oven until the dough is beautifully golden brown, for 30 to 40 minutes.
