Festive Christmas bar cookies with red and green cherries and candy-coated chocolates.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cup chopped red and green candied cherries
  • 0.5 cup crushed candy coated milk chocolates
  • 1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar
  • 5 teaspoons warm water
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) for a perfect bake.
  • Cream together fluffy butter and sugar in a large bowl. Beat in almond extract and egg. Stir in combined flour and salt until well blended. Add 1/2 cup cherries. Press mixture into an ungreased 9x13 inch pan. Scatter remaining cherries and crushed candies on top, then press lightly.
  • Bake in a preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes until edges are lightly browned. Allow to cool completely in the pan before adding icing. For the icing, combine confectioners' sugar and water until it reaches a drizzling consistency.
