"Delicious molasses cake inspired by shoo-fly pie."
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 325 degrees F (165 degrees C), and generously grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Combine the flour, sugar, and butter in a large bowl until you get large crumbs. Transfer 2 cups of the mixture to a separate bowl and set it aside.
  • Combine boiling water, molasses, and baking soda in a separate bowl until the baking soda is dissolved. Add this mixture into the flour mixture in a large bowl and stir until smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle the reserved flour mixture on top.
  • Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, approximately 50 minutes in the preheated oven. Let it cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
