Delicious chewy spice drop cookies perfect for the holidays and beyond!
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups shortening
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 0.5 cup molasses
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
  • Melt the shortening in a large pan on the stove and let it cool.
  • Combine sugar, eggs, and molasses and mix until well blended.
  • Sift dry ingredients in a bowl, combine with the mixture in the pan, mix thoroughly, and refrigerate for 3 hours or overnight.
  • Shape the mixture into walnut-sized balls, coat them in granulated sugar, and then arrange them on a greased cookie sheet, ensuring they are about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes until golden brown.
  • Keep these cookies soft by storing them in an airtight container. To restore their softness if they become too crisp, simply add a slice of fresh bread to the container for a few hours or overnight.
