Cheesy French bread and ham sandwiches drizzled with strawberry syrup - a quick and delicious on-the-go dinner ready in 20 minutes!
Ingredients:
  • 12 slices French bread, 1/2 inch thick
  • 1/4 lb shaved or very thinly sliced cooked ham
  • 3 slices (3/4 oz each) Gruyère or Swiss cheese, cut in half
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • Powdered sugar, if desired
  • 3/4 cup strawberry syrup
Instructions:
  • Layer ham and cheese evenly on 6 slices of bread, folding as needed. Place remaining bread slices on top.
  • Combine eggs, milk, and granulated sugar in a small bowl. Mix well with a fork or wire whisk, then transfer to a shallow bowl.
  • In a large nonstick skillet over medium-low heat, melt butter until sizzling. Dip both sides of each sandwich in the egg mixture, ensuring the bread absorbs the mixture. Place the sandwiches in the skillet, cover, and cook until golden brown on each side (about 2 to 3 minutes per side). Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with syrup.
