Homemade naan: Simple and delicious flatbread.
Ingredients:
  • 7g dried yeast
  • 257.50 gm milk, warmed
  • 450.00 gm self-raising flour, plus extra for rolling
  • 9.00 gm sugar
  • 1.20 gm salt
  • 125.00 ml natural yoghurt
  • 36.80 gm vegetable oil or ghee, melted
Instructions:
  • In a small bowl, pour warm milk and sprinkle in dried yeast. Whisk gently with a fork until well combined.
  • In the bowl of an electric stand mixer with a dough hook, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the milk mixture, yoghurt, and ghee or vegetable oil. Mix on low speed until combined, then increase speed to medium for 5 minutes until the dough is soft and smooth. If the dough is sticky, add more flour gradually until smooth.
  • Transfer the dough to a large, lightly oiled mixing bowl. Cover the surface of the dough with loose cling wrap, then cover the bowl with a tea towel. Allow the dough to rise in a warm spot for 1 – 2 hours.
  • Preheat your oven to the highest temperature and place the baking trays inside to preheat as well.
  • After the dough has doubled in size, gently press it down once and shape it into 6-7 equal-sized balls. If you're not cooking your naan immediately, wrap each ball loosely in cling film and store until ready to cook.
  • Take one ball of dough and roll it out into a thin, large oval shape. Transfer it onto a hot oven tray and bake for 3-5 minutes until golden and crispy. Remove from oven, brush with melted ghee or oil, and season with salt.
