Apple slices combined with sugar, flour, spices, butter, and caramel candies, creating a luscious filling as they bake.
Ingredients:
  • 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 0.5 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup butter, chilled and diced
  • 9 caramel squares, quartered
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
Instructions:
  • Combine fresh apples with zesty lemon juice, a blend of sugars, warm spices, flour, butter, and sweet caramels in a spacious bowl. Mix until all the fruit is perfectly coated.
  • Roll out the dough and cut two crusts. Line a pie plate with one crust. Spoon filling into the bottom crust, and top with the second crust. Crimp the edges, then place the pie on a foil-lined baking sheet. Poke fork holes on top and sprinkle with granulated sugar before baking.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and bake for 50 minutes. If browning too quickly, reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Serve warm or at room temperature.
