Transport yourself back in time with this nostalgic taffy making experience from your childhood.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 teaspoons white vinegar
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
Instructions:
  • Prepare a baking sheet by greasing it lightly. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, molasses, water, and vinegar. Cook and stir until the sugar reaches the hard ball stage at 250 to 265 degrees F (121 to 129 degrees C), or forms a rigid ball when dropped into cold water.
  • Take the pot off the heat, and mix in the butter and baking soda. Spread the mixture on the baking sheet, and let it cool for 10 to 15 minutes until ready to handle.
  • After the taffy has cooled a bit, fold it in half and stretch it to double its length. Keep folding and stretching until the taffy turns golden brown and becomes firm. Cut it into bite-sized pieces and individually wrap them in waxed paper before storing in an airtight container.
