Classic saltine cracker dressing with celery, onions, and herbs - perfect for Thanksgiving or roast chicken. Comforting and delicious.
Ingredients:
  • cooking spray
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 stalks celery, diced
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, or to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried sage
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper, or to taste
  • 2.75 cups chicken broth
  • 1 pound saltine crackers, crushed
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and lightly grease a baking dish with cooking spray.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add onion, celery, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Cook until onion turns translucent, about 5 minutes. Season with black pepper, sage, thyme, rosemary, and cayenne pepper, and stir for another minute.
  • Take the skillet off the heat and gently mix in the chicken broth.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the crushed crackers and onion mixture. Add the egg and cream, then combine everything until well blended. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  • Evenly spread the cracker mixture in a large baking dish and make sure the top is smooth.
  • Bake until the top turns golden brown, for about 40-45 minutes in the preheated oven.
