Create festive homemade hard candy for any occasion with vibrant colors and seasonal flavors - the perfect gift idea!
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 0.66666668653488 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint oil, or other flavored oil
  • 1 teaspoon any color food coloring
Instructions:
  • Cover a cookie sheet generously with confectioners' sugar and keep it to the side.
  • Using a heavy bottomed saucepan, combine white sugar, water, and corn syrup. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Boil over medium-high heat until the temperature reaches 300 to 310 degrees F (149 to 154 degrees C) or until a small amount dropped into cold water forms hard threads. Remove from heat and mix in flavored oil and food coloring.
  • Pour the sugar mixture onto the cookie sheet in a thin stream to help it cool quickly. Once the candy has set enough to hold its shape, use scissors to cut it into bite-size pieces. Allow it to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
