Homemade lemon pound cake, nostalgic and simple to bake, pairs perfectly with a hot coffee or tea.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 cup shortening (such as Crisco®)
  • 5 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons lemon extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking powder
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) and grease two 9x5-inch loaf pans.
  • In a large bowl, mix together sugar, flour, eggs, shortening, whole milk, vanilla extract, lemon extract, and baking powder until well combined, then pour the batter into the prepared pans.
  • Bake in the oven until the cake is cooked through and a toothpick comes out clean, approximately 30 minutes.
