Creamy one-pot Italian sausage pasta made with tomato basil sauce, served with Parmesan and basil. Cook sausage, veggies, then add sauce and broth. Stir in cooked pasta and cream. Top with cheese and herbs. Enjoy a flavorful family meal with easy cleanup.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb bulk mild Italian sausage
  • 1/2 cup diced red onion
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 carton (32 oz) Progresso™ chicken broth
  • 1 jar (24.5 oz) Muir Glen™ organic tomato basil pasta sauce
  • 1 lb uncooked medium pasta shells
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese (2 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons shredded fresh basil leaves
Instructions:
  • In a 5-quart Dutch oven over medium-high heat, heat the oil until shimmering. Add the sausage and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it is no longer pink. Transfer the cooked sausage to a bowl using a slotted spoon, cover, and keep warm.
  • Sauté onion, garlic, red pepper flakes, and salt in the flavorful oil and drippings until softened and lightly browned, around 1 to 2 minutes on medium-high heat.
  • Combine the broth and pasta sauce in the pot and bring to a boil. Add the pasta, bring back to a boil, then simmer uncovered for 11 to 13 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta reaches your preferred tenderness and the sauce thickens.
  • Add the sausage and velvety whipping cream to the pot, allowing it to gently simmer. Take it off the heat and generously sprinkle with cheese and fresh basil.
