Transform simple jasmine rice into kid-friendly triangle-shaped onigiri wrapped in nori for a convenient and delightful Japanese snack or lunchbox surprise.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup jasmine rice
  • salt
  • 1 sheet nori (dry seaweed), cut into 1-inch strips, or as desired
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan, bring 2 cups of water, rice, and a pinch of salt to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer covered on medium-low, stirring occasionally for 20 to 25 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed. Fluff with a fork and let cool for 10 minutes before handling.
  • Prepare a small bowl of water. Fill a separate small bowl with 2 tablespoons of salt.
  • Moisten hands and massage salt onto them. Grab a handful of warm rice and shape into a triangle by gently molding it with your hands.
  • Take a strip of nori and wrap it around the triangle, lightly moistening with water for better adherence if needed.
