Award-winning drop cookies from a cherished family recipe. Runner-up at County Fair among 60+ entries.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter flavored shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 0.5 cup sour milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 3 tablespoons orange juice
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) and give your cookie sheets a gentle greasing.
  • Combine 3 teaspoons of baking powder with 3 1/4 cups of flour in a medium mixing bowl.
  • Cream brown sugar and shortening until fluffy, then mix in eggs, orange rind, and vanilla. Gradually add flour mixture and sour milk, alternating between the two until fully combined. Drop teaspoonfuls of dough onto cookie sheets.
  • After baking for 12-15 minutes, allow the cookies to cool before adding the delicious frosting.
  • Prepare the frosting by combining powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon of butter, and enough orange juice to achieve a spreadable consistency for the cooled cookies.
