Orange-flavored scones dipped in a sweet orange glaze for a burst of citrus goodness.
Ingredients:
  • 1 medium egg
  • cooking spray
  • 1.3333333730698 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar, divided
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 stick cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2.5 tablespoons orange zest
  • 6 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1.5 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon milk, or as needed
  • 0.5 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
  • 4 teaspoons orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with aluminum foil and greasing it with cooking spray.
  • Combine the flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Incorporate the butter using a pastry cutter, then gently fold in the orange zest.
  • Create a crater in the middle of the flour mixture. Combine orange juice, egg, and vinegar in a bowl and pour into the center. Mix until just moistened and sticky.
  • Place the dough on a floured surface and gently knead about 10 times. Shape it into a 6x8-inch rectangle. Cut the rectangle into 4 squares, then cut each square into 8 triangles. Arrange the scones on a baking sheet. Brush the tops with milk and sprinkle with the remaining sugar.
  • Bake until beautifully golden brown in the preheated oven for around 10 minutes.
  • Prepare the orange glaze as the scones bake. Combine 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons of confectioners' sugar with orange juice until the mixture is thick and smooth, ensuring the glaze drips slowly off a spoon. Stir in the orange zest.
  • Immerse the warm scones in the glaze until the tops are completely coated. Allow them to rest for 5 minutes before enjoying.
