Delicious mince and rice balls, a must-have for Chinese New Year festivities.
Ingredients:
  • 200.00 gm calrose rice
  • 500g lean pork mince
  • 65.63 gm soy sauce
  • 40g button mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 1/2 x 227g can sliced water chestnuts, drained, rinsed, finely chopped
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 small carrot, peeled, grated
  • Chilli sauce or soy sauce, to serve
Instructions:
  • Place the rice in a bowl and cover it with cold water. Allow it to soak for 30 minutes, then drain.
  • Mix the mince, soy sauce, cornflour, mushrooms, water chestnuts, onion, and carrot together in a bowl using your hands.
  • Spread the rice evenly on a dish. Shape the mince mixture into 20 balls using a heaping tablespoon for each. Roll the balls in the rice until they are nicely coated. Arrange them on a baking paper-lined tray.
  • Steam the dumplings in batches in a large steamer lined with baking paper over simmering water for 20 minutes or until fully cooked. Keep warm on a plate and serve with your choice of chilli sauce or soy sauce.
