Poached pears in vanilla syrup paired with rich dark chocolate sauce for an elegant and decadent dessert.
Ingredients:
  • 4 pears, peeled
  • 0.5 lemon, juiced
  • 2 cups water
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 (1 ounce) squares bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon coffee flavored liqueur
  • 4 maraschino cherries, garnish
Instructions:
  • Keep the stems on peeled pears and sprinkle them with lemon juice to prevent browning. Set aside.
  • In a saucepan, combine water and sugar and bring to a boil until sugar is dissolved. Stir in vanilla. Add pears standing upright. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. Let cool in the liquid, then drain before serving.
  • Combine chocolate, cream, and butter in a double boiler. Stir until chocolate is melted and smooth. Remove from heat and mix in coffee liqueur.
  • Arrange the pears beautifully on a platter, drizzle them generously with chocolate sauce, and adorn with bright maraschino cherries.
