Create adorable penguin cookies with chocolate and vanilla dough.
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 oz unsweetened baking chocolate, melted, cooled
Instructions:
  • In a spacious bowl, blend together sugars, butter, vanilla, and egg using an electric mixer on medium speed or mix with a spoon until well combined. Add flour, baking powder, and salt, and stir until fully incorporated.
  • Split the dough in half. Put one half of the dough and the melted chocolate in a resealable plastic bag. Seal the bag and knead until everything is mixed thoroughly. Cover the other half of the dough with plastic wrap. Chill both doughs for about 2 hours until they are firm.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Keep the dough covered as you shape the cookies. For the penguins, mold 1 1/2-inch balls of plain dough into ovals for the bodies. Use chocolate dough to shape the wings and head, pressing them onto the bodies. Create the beaks, eyes, and feet with the plain dough, then place them on the penguins. Arrange the cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until fully cooked. Allow to cool on the cookie sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Let cool completely for about 30 minutes before serving.
