Create a flawless pie crust in just 25 minutes with 4 simple ingredients. Impress loved ones with this easy homemade crust, perfect for any pie filling like Lemon Meringue or Banana Cream. Let's bake!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup plus 1 tablespoon Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 3 to 5 tablespoons ice-cold water
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 475°F. Combine flour and salt in a medium bowl. Incorporate shortening with a pastry blender or by using two knives in a criss-cross motion until the mixture resembles small peas. Drizzle cold water over the mixture, one tablespoon at a time, while stirring with a fork until the dough is moistened and just begins to come together (add an extra teaspoon or two of water if needed).
  • Combine the pastry into a ball and shape it into a flattened round on a lightly floured surface. Wrap the flattened round in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 45 minutes until firm yet pliable. This step allows the shortening to firm up slightly, resulting in a flakier pastry after baking. If refrigerated longer, allow the pastry to soften slightly before rolling.
  • Roll out the pastry with a floured rolling pin into a circle 2 inches larger than a 9-inch glass pie plate. Fold the pastry into fourths, then place it in the pie plate. Unfold it and gently press it against the bottom and sides. Trim any overhanging pastry to about 1 inch from the rim. Tuck and roll the excess pastry under, level with the plate, and create a decorative flute around the edge. Finally, prick the bottom and sides of the pastry all over with a fork.
  • Bake until golden brown, then cool on a wire rack.
