Spicy German Christmas cookie with black pepper.
Ingredients:
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.75 cup light molasses
  • 1.25 teaspoons baking soda
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 0.33333334326744 cup confectioners' sugar for decoration
Instructions:
  • Combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, spices, and a hint of black pepper, stirring until well mixed.
  • Combine rich molasses with creamy butter in a large saucepan. Heat and stir until the butter melts beautifully. Allow the mixture to cool down to room temperature.
  • Blend in the eggs gently. Combine dry ingredients with the molasses mixture and mix thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
  • Form the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them onto a greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 12-14 minutes until cookies are done. Remove, cool, and roll in powdered sugar.
