Try these delectable German molasses cookies for a unique and flavorful dessert option.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon anise oil, if desired
  • Powdered sugar
Instructions:
  • Mix together sugar, butter, buttermilk, and molasses in a large bowl until smooth. Stir in flour and the rest of the ingredients, except for the powdered sugar, until fully combined. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours for easier handling.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into 4 long rolls, each 15 inches long and 1 inch in diameter. Use a serrated knife to slice the rolls into 1/4-inch-thick pieces. Arrange the slices on ungreased cookie sheets, spaced 1/4 inch apart.
  • Bake at 350°F for 8-9 minutes until golden brown. Transfer to wire racks right away. Cool for 5 minutes until completely cooled, then dust with powdered sugar.
