Indulge in decadent three-layer bars: buttery shortbread crust, luscious chocolate filling, topped with maraschino cherry icing and chocolate stripes.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1.5 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice
  • 1 (1 ounce) square semisweet chocolate, chopped
Instructions:
  • Prepare all ingredients. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  • Combine flour, white sugar, and cocoa powder in a medium bowl. Incorporate butter until mixture is crumbly.
  • Press the mixture into the base of the pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
  • Combine sweetened condensed milk and chocolate chips in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir frequently until chips are melted and mixture is smooth. Pour over the baked crust.
  • Place back in the oven and bake for another 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan on a wire rack.
  • Combine confectioners' sugar, butter, and cherry juice in a medium bowl, then spread the mixture over the cooled filling in the pan.
  • Melt semisweet chocolate until smooth using a microwave or metal bowl over simmering water. Transfer melted chocolate to a plastic or piping bag, cut the tip to 1/8 inch, and drizzle over bars for striped decoration.
  • Allow the dish to fully cool before slicing into perfect squares.
