Simmered pressed ham in tangy sweet sauce - a Pittsburgh classic.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 0.33333334326744 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons prepared yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1.5 pounds chipped chopped ham
  • 8 kaiser rolls, split
  • 1 cup pickle relish
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt butter. Saute onions in the butter until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add ketchup, vinegar, water, brown sugar, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for about 10 minutes. Stir in ham; cook until heated through and sauce is bubbling, 5 to 7 minutes. Enjoy!
  • Toast the kaiser rolls in the preheated oven for 5 to 7 minutes while the ham simmers.
  • Divide the flavorful ham mixture evenly among the toasted kaiser rolls and top with zesty pickle relish. Serve while hot.
