Juicy ripe plums baked in a rich buttery pie crust with brown sugar spice streusel.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.125 teaspoon salt
  • 0.66666698455811 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.33300000429153 cup chopped hazelnuts
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 5 cups plums, pitted and sliced
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • For the crust: In a large bowl, mix 3 cups flour, 3/4 cup white sugar, baking powder, and 1/8 teaspoon salt until combined. Use a pastry blender to cut in 2/3 cup butter until it resembles small peas. Stir in eggs, vanilla extract, milk, and lemon zest until just combined. Refrigerate dough while preparing the topping.
  • For the streusel topping, combine 1/2 cup flour, brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon salt, nuts, and lemon zest in a bowl. Blend in butter until mixture is evenly combined. Set aside.
  • For the fruit filling, combine sliced plums in a large bowl. In a separate small bowl, thoroughly mix the remaining sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour over the plums and gently stir until they are evenly coated.
  • Roll out a delicious pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie pan; trim and create a lovely fluted edge. Pour in the plum filling and generously cover with the scrumptious streusel topping.
  • Bake the pie in the preheated oven until the filling is bubbly and the streusel is golden brown on top, for about 45 to 55 minutes. Serve it warm or at room temperature.
