Crispy fried Northern Chinese wontons filled with savory pork and veggies, paired with a zesty dipping sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 pound ground pork
  • 0.5 medium head cabbage, finely chopped
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • 2 slices fresh ginger root, finely chopped
  • 2 water chestnuts, drained and finely chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 (14 ounce) package wonton wrappers
  • 5 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 0.75 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon chili oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
Instructions:
  • In a large, deep skillet, brown the crumbled pork over medium-high heat until cooked through. Drain any excess fat and set aside.
  • Combine pork, cabbage, green onion, ginger, water chestnuts, salt, sugar, and sesame oil in a medium bowl. Refrigerate for 6 to 8 hours or overnight.
  • Spoon a generous tablespoon of the savory pork filling onto each wonton wrapper. Carefully fold and press the edges with a damp fork to seal in the delicious flavors.
  • In a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat, heat 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Place the pot stickers seam side up and cook for 30 seconds to a minute. Add water and gently boil for 7 to 8 minutes until oil and water start to sizzle. Add the remaining oil and cook until the bottoms are golden brown. Remove pot stickers from heat.
  • Combine chili oil, soy sauce, and vinegar in a small serving bowl, adjusting the amounts to suit your taste preferences.
