Create a vibrant masterpiece using Betty Crocker Super Moist White Cake Mix and colorful food dye.
Ingredients:
  • 2 boxes Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ White Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and egg whites called for on cake mix boxes
  • Betty Crocker™ Neon Purple Gel Food Color
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 3 egg whites, room temperature
  • 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. generously coat four 8- or 9-inch round cake pans with baking spray containing flour.
  • Prepare the cake batter according to the package instructions. Divide the batter evenly into 4 bowls. Add food coloring to each bowl to create 4 different shades of the same color. Transfer the batter into pans and bake following the instructions for 8- or 9-inch rounds. Let the cakes cool as directed on the box.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, bring sugar and water to a boil. Continue cooking until the mixture reaches 245°F on a candy thermometer.
  • In a large bowl, whip egg whites, cream of tartar, and salt with an electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form.
  • Lower the speed and gently pour the sugar syrup into the egg whites. Increase speed to high and beat for about 7 minutes or until the sides of the bowl feel cool to the touch. Mix in the vanilla.
  • Smoothly spread 1 tablespoon of frosting on the cake plate as glue. Gently place 1 cake layer on the plate and coat it with a thin layer of frosting. Repeat with the remaining layers. Finally, frost the entire cake with the rest of the frosting.
