Sweet and spicy pie filled with sugar, spices, raisins, walnuts, and sour cream, topped with golden brown thick meringue.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 egg yolks, beaten
  • 0.5 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 prepared 8 inch pastry shell, baked and cooled
  • 2 egg whites
  • 0.25 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan, mix together 3/4 cup of white sugar, cornstarch, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Stir in sour cream and lemon juice, then add the raisins. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Remove from heat.
  • Temper the egg yolks by gradually whisking a small portion of the hot mixture into them before returning the mixture to the pot. Cook and stir for one minute. Allow the filling to cool to lukewarm, then mix in the nuts. Pour the mixture into the pre-baked pie shell.
  • Whisk egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Slowly sprinkle in 1/4 cup of sugar, continuing to whisk until stiff peaks form and sugar is fully dissolved. Gently spread meringue over pie, ensuring it reaches the edges.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
