Cheesy mustard and beer sauce on toast, broiled to perfection for a gourmet twist on cheese on toast.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 drops hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 0.5 cup beer
  • 0.5 pound Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 6 slices bread
Instructions:
  • Gently melt butter in a saucepan. Add flour, salt, pepper, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and hot pepper sauce. Stir and cook until smooth and bubbly, around 5 minutes.
  • Take the saucepan off the heat. Gradually mix in the milk, then return to heat, stirring constantly until it boils. Gently pour in the beer; cook and stir for 1 minute. Melt small portions of Cheddar cheese into the mixture until fully combined.
  • Position the oven rack 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the broiler.
  • Toast one side of the bread slices until golden brown. Place the slices on a baking sheet with the toasted side down. Generously spoon the cheese sauce over the untoasted side of the bread.
  • Place under the broiler until the cheese sauce is bubbling and golden, for 2 to 3 minutes. Serve hot.
