Create a show-stopping prehistoric dinosaur cake using Betty Crocker™ Devil's Food Cake Mix, frosting, and chocolate candies for dino decorations!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Devil's Food Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • Tray or cardboard (18x14 inches), covered paper and plastic food wrap or foil
  • 2 tubs (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting
  • Betty Crocker™ Green Gel Food Color
  • 11 milk chocolate candy drops or pieces, unwrapped
  • Assorted round chocolate candies (candy-coated chocolate candies, miniature candy-coated chocolate baking bits, coating wafers, chocolate chips)
  • 1 tube (4.25 oz) Betty Crocker™ White Decorating Icing
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (or 325°F for dark or nonstick pans) and generously coat the bottoms and sides of two (8- or 9-inch) round cake pans with cooking spray. Follow the directions on the cake mix box for 8- or 9-inch rounds. Allow cakes to cool for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks. Let cool completely, approximately 1 hour. For easier manipulation, chill or freeze cakes for 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Review the visual aids provided in the link for templates. Position the templates on top of the cakes as demonstrated, then cut along the template edges. Display the cakes as illustrated on a serving tray.
  • Transfer the frosting into a spacious bowl. Mix in the food color gradually until you achieve the desired shade of green. Coat the cake pieces with a light layer of frosting to lock in the crumbs. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to allow the frosting to firm up.
  • Spread the remaining frosting over the cake pieces. Place 11 milk chocolate candies in a row along the back of the dinosaur for spikes. Decorate the body with assorted candies for spots. Use 2 candy-coated chocolates for the eyes, and add white decorating icing for the eye centers and teeth. Keep the cake loosely covered at room temperature.
