Decadent Gruyère potato au gratin: layers of creamy potatoes baked to perfection.
Ingredients:
  • 3 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and very thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup heavy cream, divided
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • freshly grated nutmeg to taste
  • 2 cups freshly shredded Gruyere cheese, divided
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) for a perfect bake.
  • In a large pot, combine potatoes, garlic, and salt, then cover with water. Boil until potatoes are tender but not mushy, about 8 to 10 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer half of the potatoes to a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Drizzle half of the cream over the potatoes, and generously season with black pepper and nutmeg. Sprinkle half of the Gruyère cheese on top. Layer the rest of the potatoes, season again with black pepper and nutmeg, then pour over the remaining cream and sprinkle with the remaining Gruyère cheese.
  • Bake until the cheese is beautifully golden brown on top, for approximately 1 hour in the preheated oven.
