Learn how to make a traditional and delicious Indian spinach and paneer dish from a friend.
Ingredients:
  • 0.33333334326744 cup ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1 bulb garlic, peeled and minced
  • 0.5 teaspoon toasted cumin seed
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 (3 inch) piece ginger, peeled and minced
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala, divided
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup water, or as needed
  • 1 (10 ounce) box frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
  • 1 pound paneer, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 0.25 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan, melt ghee over gentle heat. Mix in garlic and cumin seed; cook until garlic is softened, approximately 3 minutes. Introduce tomato paste, ginger, 1 teaspoon garam masala, salt, onion, and water. Turn up the heat to medium, stirring until the tomato paste dissolves. Simmer gently for 1 hour, adjusting water as necessary to keep a saucy texture.
  • Gently mix in spinach and heat through for about 5 minutes. Introduce paneer and cook for an extra 5 minutes until heated. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with cilantro and the remaining 1 teaspoon of garam masala.
