Classic Lithuanian tea cakes: nutty cookies coated in sweet powdered sugar, a beloved family recipe.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 6 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 0.33333334326744 cup powdered sugar, or more as needed
Instructions:
  • Prepare all ingredients.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) for the perfect baking temperature.
  • In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer to whip the butter and vanilla until smooth and creamy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour and 6 tablespoons of powdered sugar and whisk together. Add this mixture to the butter mixture and stir until just blended. Gently mix in walnuts until fully incorporated; the mixture may appear crumbly.
  • Form 1-inch dough balls by rolling small scoops between your hands. Arrange balls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Place in the oven and bake until the edges are starting to turn golden brown, approximately 12 minutes.
  • After baking, allow the dish to rest on a wire rack for 15 minutes to cool.
  • Transfer the remaining 1/3 cup of powdered sugar into a small bowl. Gently coat the cooled cookies with the sugar by rolling them once or twice.
  • Savor every bite!
