Decadent chocolate chip cookie bar with a rich, salted caramel topping for a perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pouch (17.5 oz) Betty Crocker™ Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix
  • Butter and egg called for on cookie mix pouch
  • 1 bag (11 oz) caramels, unwrapped
  • 1 cup (from 14-oz can) sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse sea salt
  • 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and coat a 9-inch square pan with cooking spray.
  • Combine the Cookie Base ingredients in a large bowl until a soft dough forms. Spread the dough evenly in a pan and bake for 22-26 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 5 minutes on a cooling rack.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, combine caramels, milk, and 3 tablespoons of butter. Heat over medium heat for 7 to 10 minutes, stirring frequently until caramels are melted and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat, stir in salt, and spread over the warm cookie base.
  • Place the chocolate chips in a small microwave-safe bowl and microwave on High for 45 to 60 seconds, or until they can be stirred smooth. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the top of the bar and refrigerate for about 2 hours, or until it sets.
  • Slice into a grid of 25 evenly sized pieces and store in the refrigerator covered.
