Decadent toffee bars with chocolate, caramel, and sea salt on a sugar cookie crust - a keeper!
Ingredients:
  • 1 egg
  • 1 pouch (17.5 oz) Betty Crocker™ Sugar Cookie Mix
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup toffee bits
  • 1 bag (11 oz) caramels, unwrapped
  • 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups semisweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 3/4 teaspoon coarse sea salt
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 15x10x1-inch cookie sheet with foil. In a large bowl, mix the cookie mix, butter, and egg until a soft dough forms. Fold in 1/2 cup of the toffee bits. Press the dough into the bottom of the pan. Bake for 14 to 16 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Allow to cool for 5 minutes on a cooling rack.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan, melt caramels with cream over medium-low heat, stirring constantly for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove from heat and spread over warm cookie base. Bake for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the top. Let sit for 3 minutes, then spread melted chips evenly over the filling. Sprinkle with sea salt and the remaining 1/2 cup toffee bits. Refrigerate until chocolate is firm, about 15 minutes. Cut into 8 rows by 4 rows and store in an airtight container at room temperature.
