Festive Christmas cookies with Betty Crocker® frosting - a timeless holiday dessert!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 14 craft sticks (flat wooden sticks with round ends)
  • Small round candies or chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup from 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Vanilla Frosting
  • Betty Crocker™ red gel food color, if desired
  • Betty Crocker™ colored sugar, if desired
  • Miniature marshmallows
  • Flaked coconut, if desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, cream together granulated sugar, butter, milk, almond extract, and egg until smooth. Mix in flour, baking powder, and salt until a smooth dough forms.
  • Form dough into 1 1/2-inch balls using 2 tablespoonfuls of dough each. Take out a 1/2-inch piece of dough from each ball. Place the larger balls on ungreased cookie sheets about 3 inches apart. Use the floured bottom of a glass to flatten the balls to 1/2-inch thickness. Insert a wooden stick into the side of each flattened ball. Shape the small pieces of dough into triangles and press them onto the rounds opposite the sticks to create hats.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until edges turn a light golden brown. Press candies into cookies to create eyes, nose, and mouth. Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Let cool entirely, around 15 minutes, before serving.
  • Color 1/4 cup of frosting with red food coloring. Frost the hats, sprinkle with colored sugar, and add miniature marshmallows to the tips. Use more frosting, candies, granulated sugar, and coconut for the brims of the hats. Finish by using about 1/4 cup of white frosting and extra coconut for the beards.
