Cheesy scalloped ham and cabbage casserole, perfect for sharing at potlucks.
Ingredients:
  • 1 medium head cabbage, chopped
  • 1.5 cups cooked ham, diced
  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 0.75 cup processed American cheese
  • 2 tablespoons dry bread crumbs
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 300 degrees Fahrenheit (150 degrees Celsius) and generously butter a baking dish.
  • Place a steamer insert in a saucepan with water just below it. Bring to a boil. Steam cabbage and onion covered until tender, 2 to 6 minutes. Add ham and steam for 1 more minute. Then transfer everything to a baking dish.
  • In a skillet over low heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter until creamy. Mix in flour until smooth, then gradually pour in milk while stirring continuously. Add cheese and salt, stirring until the cheese is completely melted. Pour the velvety cheese sauce over the cabbage mixture in the baking dish. Sprinkle with bread crumbs and dot with the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter for an extra golden touch.
  • Bake in the oven set to the perfect temperature for 30 minutes.
