Kids create spooky chocolate cookie cats with candy decorations for a fun twist.
Ingredients:
  • 3 oz semisweet baking chocolate
  • 1 cup butter, softened (do not use margarine)
  • 2 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Betty Crocker™ yellow candy sprinkles
  • 15 miniature candy-coated chocolate baking bits
  • 1 package pull-apart yellow licorice twists, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 package pull-apart pink licorice twists, cut into bits
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and generously grease cookie sheets with shortening.
  • Melt chocolate in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed or mix with a spoon. Stir in melted chocolate, flour, vanilla, and egg.
  • Roll the dough into 30 (1-inch) balls. Take a small piece from 15 of the balls to form tails and set them aside. Using scissors, make a 1/4-inch slit on each of the same 15 balls and separate the dough to create ears. Place the balls on cookie sheets about 2 inches apart.
  • Position the remaining dough balls beneath each cat head on the cookie sheets to form the body. Shape small pieces of dough into 15 ropes measuring 2 1/2 inches in length, then place one end of each rope under each body.
  • Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until firm. Transfer from cookie sheets to cooling racks and let cool for 30 minutes.
  • Use sprinkles for eyes and baking bits for noses, yellow licorice pieces for whiskers, and pink licorice for tongues.
