Crispy and flavorful Sichuan chicken tenders, a popular favorite at Chinese fast food spots, are finger-licking good and perfect for on-the-go snacking!
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken tenders
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 3 tablespoons Sichuan peppercorn powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1.25 cups panko bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
  • Season chicken tenders generously with a pinch of salt and a dash of freshly ground black pepper for a burst of flavor.
  • Combine Sichuan peppercorn powder, 1 teaspoon salt, cayenne, and paprika in a small bowl; set aside.
  • First, pour flour into a shallow bowl. Next, combine eggs and water in a separate bowl. Then, mix bread crumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in another bowl.
  • Coat chicken tenders in flour, shaking off excess. Dip in egg mixture, then coat with bread crumbs. Place on a plate and set aside.
  • In a large, heavy skillet, heat 1/2-inch of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Cook chicken tenders in hot oil until golden brown and fully cooked, flipping as needed, for 3 to 4 minutes per batch. Ensure oil temperature reaches 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) before frying each batch.
  • Season your freshly fried chicken tenders generously on both sides with the Sichuan powder mixture to your desired level of spiciness.
