Delicious and easy carnitas recipe with flavorful pork, zesty orange, and garlicky goodness.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (3 1/2) pound boneless pork shoulder, trimmed and cut into 2 inch chunks
  • 2 oranges, quartered
  • 1 large white onion, quartered
  • 6 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
  • 0.25 cup kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon whole black peppercorns
  • 2 bay leaves
Instructions:
  • In a large Dutch oven, combine pork shoulder, oranges, onion, garlic, kosher salt, cumin, black peppercorns, and bay leaves. Pour enough water to cover all ingredients.
  • Bring to a vigorous boil, then lower the heat and simmer gently for 10 minutes. Remove any foam that forms on the surface.
  • Simmer covered until meat is tender, approximately 1 1/2 hours.
  • Let the pork cool in the flavorful broth, covered, for 1 hour.
  • Pull meat apart using two forks until it is shredded.
