Skip the tedious steps. Just combine all ingredients, knead the dough, and you're ready to bake!
Ingredients:
  • 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • 2.5 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 0.5 cup nonfat dry milk powder
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 8.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
Instructions:
  • First, dissolve yeast in half a cup of warm water in a large mixing bowl. Next, add the rest of the water, dry milk, oil, sugar, salt, and 3 cups of flour. Beat the mixture with an electric mixer on medium speed for 3 minutes until smooth. Then, stir in additional flour as needed until a soft dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic for 6 to 8 minutes. Put the dough in a greased bowl, turning it once to coat the surface with grease. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and allow it to rise in a warm place until doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
  • After gently deflating the dough, separate it into two equal portions and mold them into two beautiful loaves. Transfer the loaves into two generously greased 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pans. Give the tops of the loaves a light coating of grease and cover them with a moist cloth. Allow the dough to rise until doubled, typically taking about 1 hour.
  • Bake the bread at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 35 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire racks, then brush with melted butter or margarine.
